Save A Lot, a major discount grocery chain in the U.S., has completed its strategic shift to become a 100% licensed wholesaler by selling its remaining 18 company-operated stores. The move finalizes the transition to independent, licensed ownership for all Save A Lot locations, allowing the brand to focus on fostering continued growth as a licensed wholesaler.
Leevers Supermarkets, Inc., a current Save A Lot Retail Partner, has acquired the 18 stores in the St. Louis area and will continue to operate them under the Save A Lot banner. Leevers already operates 29 stores in markets like Denver, Colorado, and Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.
Save A Lot’s CEO, Leon Bergmann, emphasized the importance of the Retail Partners in the brand’s success and its ability to meet the needs of local communities. With the wholesale transformation completed, Save A Lot will collaborate closely with Retail Partners, including Leevers, to test new innovations and programs before implementing them across the network of stores.
Bergmann expressed confidence that the combination of a world-class wholesale business and engaged retail support will drive profitable sales growth for all Save A Lot retailers. The company’s shift to a licensed wholesaler model marks a new chapter in its mission to provide unmatched value to customers while empowering independent operators to deliver an exceptional shopping experience.
