File:Dhaka Railway Station VIP Gate.jpg has been listed at Commons:Deletion requests so that the community can discuss whether it should be kept or not. We would appreciate it if you could go to voice your opinion about this at its entry.

If you created this file, please note that the fact that it has been proposed for deletion does not necessarily mean that we do not value your kind contribution. It simply means that one person believes that there is some specific problem with it, such as a copyright issue. Please see Commons:But it's my own work! for a guide on how to address these issues.

Please remember to respond to and – if appropriate – contradict the arguments supporting deletion. Arguments which focus on the nominator will not affect the result of the nomination. Thank you!

Question from the CPUG Board[edit]

Dear user group member,

I'm writing you to today on behalf of the board of the Commons Photographers User Group. The past year has been a busy one for us. In 2022, we've had more activities than ever before in the history of our group and you'll find an overview on our group's page.

With that being said, 2022 was also a year of learning for the current board members. Most of us hadn't been involved in running the Photographers User Group and we spent quite some time on getting used to our new roles. We all feel it was a steep learning curve.

That's why, at our last board meeting, we decided to ask our members whether they'd be ok with us serving for another year. Extending our board duties to the end of 2023 would allow us to continue the work we've started this year, and to benefit from the knowledge we've built over the past twelve months.

However, in the end, it's up to you and the other members of our group to decide whether such an extension of our board term should be granted. I invite you to voice your opinion on this page:

Commons:Commons Photographers User Group/Board Elections 2022

We'll gather feedback until December 27, and we'll keep you in the loop about the outcomes of this process.

Thanks so much for your ongoing support of our group. I wish you, your family, and your friends all the best.

QI reviews[edit]

Thank you for reviewing some of the images I nominated. I am a bit confused however, that you are asking for a "Wow-factor" for one image, when this is explicitly something that is needed for FI and not for QI. Similarily I am not sure an "ordinary setup" should be considered grounds for rejecting an image as QI. Could I ask you to please reread the image guidelines and reconsider your votes accordingly? Thank you very much, Kritzolina (talk) 19:55, 13 December 2022 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Hello @Kritzolina
Thanks for reaching to me about that. I have rechecked those and have updated some votes. Please let me know if there is any other problems. Wasiul Bahar (talk) 20:22, 13 December 2022 (UTC)Reply[reply]
Thanks for checking the guidelines and changing your votes accordingly. I know I am being a bit testy now, but could you look into it a bit more and change "decline" to "review" when you change your actual vote from decline to neutral? Also please check the Megapixels and not the Megabytes, thank you. --Kritzolina (talk) 13:52, 14 December 2022 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Most memorable shot 2022 / Wikimania 2023[edit]

Dear member of the Commons Photographers User Group,

I wish you a Happy New Year! As it has been our tradition at the beginning of the new year for a while, we're sharing our most memorable shots of the past year with each other. I invite you to share a picture that is particular meaningful to you and to describe why that's the case. Also, as Wikimania 2023 will be here before we know it (August 16 to 19), please consider adding your thoughts on our planning page, where we gather ideas for how we can make Commons photography more visible than in the years before.

All the best to you, your family, and friends! --Frank Schulenburg (talk) 21:01, 2 January 2023 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Hello @yann
why do you think that I am abusing multiple account?
Me, my brother and 2 of my friends live in the same place. Me and my brother always use the same pc and we, sometimes share pcs among us. Just for example, in this image, me, my brother and one of my friends, mong is using my pc to complete the organizers' lab course; me and my brother was helping him out in his tasks. You can reach out to the leads or organizers'lab to get proofs of mong's identity. If any kind of proof of our real life identity is needed, we are always ready to provide that. P.S.- you'll find me, my brother and mong in this and this image also.--Wasiul Bahar(talk) 19:57, 24 January 2023 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Round 1 of Picture of the Year 2022 voting is open![edit]

2022 Picture of the Year: Saint John Church of Sohrol in Iran.

Read this message in your language

Dear Wikimedian,

Wikimedia Commons is happy to announce that the 2022 Picture of the Year competition is now open. This year will be the seventeenth edition of the annual Wikimedia Commons photo competition, which recognizes exceptional contributions by users on Wikimedia Commons. Wikimedia users are invited to vote for their favorite images featured on Commons during the last year (2022) to produce a single Picture of the Year.

Hundreds of images that have been rated Featured Pictures by the international Wikimedia Commons community in the past year are all entered in this competition. These images include professional animal and plant shots, breathtaking panoramas and skylines, restorations of historical images, photographs portraying the world's best architecture, impressive human portraits, and so much more.

For your convenience, we have sorted the images into topical categories. Two rounds of voting will be held: In the first round, you may vote for as many images as you like. The top 30 overall and the two most popular images in each category will continue to the final. In the final round, you may vote for just three images to become the Picture of the Year.

Round 1 will end on 1 May 2023, 23:59:59 UTC.

Thanks,
the Wikimedia Commons Picture of the Year committee

A file that you have uploaded to Wikimedia Commons, File:Image of Mosque of Bibi Mariam.jpg, is a derivative work, containing an "image within an image". Examples of such works would include a photograph of a sculpture, a scan of a magazine cover, or a map that has been altered from the original. In each of these cases, the rights of the creator of the original must be considered, as well as those of the creator of the derivative work.

While the description page states who made this derivative work, it currently doesn't specify who created the original work, so the overall copyright status is unclear. If you did not create the original work depicted in this image, you will need to specify the owner of the copyright.

Please edit the file description and add the missing information, or the file may be deleted. If you created the original content yourself, enter this information as the source. If someone else created the content, the source should be the address to the web page where you found it, the name and ISBN of the book you scanned it from, or similar. You should also name the author, provide verifiable information to show that the content is in the public domain or has been published under a free license by its author, and add an appropriate template identifying the public domain or licensing status, if you have not already done so. Please add the required information for this and other files you have uploaded before adding more files. If you need assistance, please ask at the help desk. Thank you!

File:Wasiul Bahar with AAFI at WCI 2023 Day-2 2.jpg has been listed at Commons:Deletion requests so that the community can discuss whether it should be kept or not.

Thank you!

Hi Wasiul Bahar, you're now a filemover. When moving files please respect the following advice:

  • Use the CommonsDelinker link in the {{Rename}} template to order a bot to replace all ocurrences of the old title with the new one. Or, if there was no rename-request, please use the Move & Replace-tab.
  • Please leave a redirect behind unless you have a valid reason not to do so. Other projects, including those using InstantCommons, might be using the file even though they don't show up in the global usage. Deleting the redirects would break their file references. Please see this section of the file rename guideline for more information.
  • Please know and follow the file rename guidelines.

Please mark yourself as nominator, when nominating pictures of others on QIC[edit]

Hi Wasiul, I just came across your nomination here, which look like you took the picture ... until one clicks at the picture and notices another uploader. Please mark clearly, who took the image and that your role ist the one of nominator when you nominate images of others, please! Kritzolina (talk) 19:01, 10 July 2023 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Hello @Kritzolina
I appreciate you bringing up this concern. To clarify, I use QI nominator tool for image nominations, which automates the process by generating descriptions and inserting them into the nomination page. I have noticed that there are others who employ a similar approach. Wasiul Bahar (talk) 19:58, 10 July 2023 (UTC)Reply[reply]
If you do this, you should still modify the bot generated text to clearly mark who created the image. Everything else is not transparent. Kritzolina (talk) 20:06, 10 July 2023 (UTC)Reply[reply]
Okk, thanks :")
I will keep that in mind.
Actually I also feel guilty when the QIC bot post the QI promotion in my talkpage saying that my image (which is not my image, I was just the nominator.) has been promoted to QI. I don't know if there is any way to stop that. :) Wasiul Bahar (talk) 20:16, 10 July 2023 (UTC)Reply[reply]
Yes, it is kind of deceiving. Marking the photographer will solve this issue. As far as I remember the tool adds by [[User:XYZ]] anyways, and that is the person who will get the notification. I don't know why this doesn't happen with your nominations. But just look at other nominations that are done by third persons. Kritzolina (talk) 20:26, 10 July 2023 (UTC)Reply[reply]
Thanks a lot for the suggestion. I will try adding by [[User:XYZ]] while nominating with QInominator tool. If it don't work, I will try nominating manually. Wasiul Bahar (talk) 10:21, 11 July 2023 (UTC)Reply[reply]
