New York has begun inspections to identify and shutter unlicensed stores selling cannabis without much success. Authorities have issued violation notices and confiscated contraband marijuana at 11 storefronts in Manhattan operating with a license. Eleven of those have remained open. “To the citizens that want us to go out and padlock on day one: We do have to afford a due process system,” said Office of Cannabis Management enforcement director Daniel Haughney. “As you see the process actually play out, step by step, it will get to a point where you’re not going to see these illicit shops out there any longer.”
