Category stats

Hi, is there any way to determine usage of images/files from one category in global Wikimedia projects? I know when you click individual file it will show you for that single file, but if there a way to know for all files in one category will be nice. I want to make graphical stats for one of the contest. ̴Kushared (talk) 06:25, 1 August 2023 (UTC)

there're a few tools. better still, some are integrated in {{Category helper}}, which you can put on the target category.--RZuo (talk) 11:04, 1 August 2023 (UTC)

Free stock photo sites & creative commons license

This is my first post so please suggest a different posting format, location, etc if needed.

Situation: I'd like to post photos to both Wikimedia Commons and Unsplash.

Current understanding: I know the licenses are different and the Unsplash license is not compatible with the Creative Commons license used by Wikimedia. I can't post a photo to Unsplash and then post it to Wikimedia.

Question: Can I post a photo to Wikimedia first, then post it to Unsplash?

More thoughts: Since the Creative Commons license is irrevocable, I thought this might be acceptable, and I wouldn't have to update the photo on Wikimedia. I've found information stating I can't post Unsplash licensed photos on Wikimedia, but I haven't found information on the reverse. If there's already a thread, please let me know. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Matt.burke.images (talk • contribs)

@Matt.burke.images: If this concerns your own images, you are free to do what you want with them after you upload them to Commons. So you can upload them to Unsplash, or any other websites. Yann (talk) 16:40, 1 August 2023 (UTC)
To my understanding you could also do it the other way around, it just might raise questions. But as long as you can prove that you took the image yourself and did not steal it from Unsplash, all should be fine. Kritzolina (talk) 17:07, 1 August 2023 (UTC)
@Matt.burke.images: The Creative Commons licenses are "non-exclusive". If you are the owner of the full copyright of some photos, you can publish them under as many non-exclusive licenses as you want at every places you want. If you however publish an image under an exclusive license you cannot. --C.Suthorn (@Life_is@no-pony.farm) (talk) 17:11, 1 August 2023 (UTC)
@Matt.burke.images: As a matter of practical advice, it is best to start off by uploading a decent number (say, 10+) of images at full resolution with EXIF to Commons only. This will help establish your reputation as a trustworthy uploader. Afterwards, you can upload your photos to Unsplash either before or after Commons, it doesn't matter; people will see from the EXIF that it was taken with the same camera as your Commons-only uploads. It would also help to use an Unsplash username that is similar to your Wikimedia username to help others see the link more clearly. -- King of ♥ 17:29, 1 August 2023 (UTC)
Or you can simply indicate your Commons account name on your user page on Unsplash. Once you do that, you can do it in whichever order, since anyone can look at Unsplash and verify that both accounts are the same person. - Jmabel ! talk 17:50, 1 August 2023 (UTC)

Amount of data in categories

Hi dear community,

I love statistics. And I want to ask if there is a tool that shows you how many megabytes/gigabytes all files in a category (or including subcategories) have? Thank you! --PantheraLeo1359531 😺 (talk) 12:01, 3 August 2023 (UTC)
